Scripture tells us that children are the heritage of the Lord.
And blessed is the man whose quiver is full of them. Hence, God blesses us with babies we in turn splurge on them all manner of goodies, pampering, and exotic upbringing. In addition,we haunt or hamper them with ‘our desires’ for their lives. Forgetting that the one who formed them and sent them to earth had a plan for them first before we ever fantasized about having kids.
Shouldn’t you have dreams for your kids?
By all means, we have a right to. But,are your dreams for them in tow with God’s plan or are they competing?
Isaiah 8:18 says, “Behold, I and the children whom the Lord hath given me are for signs and for wonders in Israel from the Lord of hosts, who dwelt in Mount Zion.”
Your role as a parent is to see that scripture fulfilled especially in the lives of your children. It tells you that, that adorable little bundle of joy in your hands was sent here for far more than just kisses, pampering and spoiling.
Take a second look at your daughter or son, realise what you have entrusted with :
- A sign, a wonder, that will be the Lord’s instrument to the nations of the earth!
- He (or she) is not just here to please you alone or to make up for your failed dreams. To earn the degree you didn’t get or to be the engineer you failed to become.
Rather, your child is here to fulfill God’s own dream. That child is here on a mission. Don’t truncate that mission. Rather be a part of the process . Nurture and guide it along the path of destiny. It is your duty to find out what that mission is, discover it through prayer and keen observation of their interests and gifts. Then utilize your role as mum or dad to guide them along that path.
